With so many resorts and villas in Bali it can be a task in itself narrowing down where to stay on the island. But if you’re anything like me and base a lot of your decisions on food then I highly recommend Courtyard by Marriott in Seminyak. Their raved about breakfast buffet is after all the main reason I wanted to stay at their hotel.
With four interconnected pools and a multilevel infinity pool, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing where to lay your towel for the day. While we spent most of our time sunning ourselves on the bean bags that molded perfectly to our body and were conveniently located next to the swim up bar, the circular day beds by the family friendly shallow pools were also a super comfy tanning location.
The swimming pool also has a collection of giant floating beanbags, which made the three inflatables I’d jammed into my suitcase slightly unnecessary. I’m not exaggerating when I say these things are huge. They can easily fit two people on them if you’re in the mood for sharing, but no judgment here if you’re not because they’re pretty damn fun to have all to yourself.
Breakfast Buffet at Seminyak Kitchen
Given the main reason I wanted to stay at Courtyard by Marriott was to experience their famous breakfast buffet, my expectations on the first morning were very high. Known as one of the best breakfast buffets in town, I can safely say it lives up to the hype. With such an extensive selection, you’re bound to find your favourite Western and Eastern breakfast choices available to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters. You’ll also probably need to give yourself at least three mornings before you’ve had the chance to sample everything on offer. Best of all, you can grab an ice cream in a cone (yes they have ice cream for breakfast) as you start your day by the pool.
All You Can Eat Popcorn and Fairy Floss
Yes you read that right. They also have a complementary popcorn and fairy floss (cotton candy for you Americans) machine in the lobby, because who doesn’t want to sit by the pool with a paper cone of popcorn.
What The Truck!
What really sets Courtyard by Marriott apart from the rest of the hotels in Seminyak is their fully modified VW Combi van parked in the driveway selling local fusion tacos and mojitos. I’m not going to lie, I had two tacos from here only an hour after finishing the breakfast buffet because I needed a farewell taco in the pool before checkout. Having tried many a taco, these were seriously some of the best tacos I’ve had. Serious question though. Is this available for hire because I would really like to road trip around Bali in a taco truck.
If you feel like doing a little bit more than floating on a bean bag in the pool all day you can join in on the daily water aerobics or play a friendly game of ping pong (conveniently stationed next to the popcorn machine if you get hungry). You can also visit the 24-hour fitness centre in preparation for some breakfast buffet indulgence, or better yet pamper yourself at their Zanti Retreat Spa.
While you probably won’t be spending much time in the modern and minimalistic designed rooms, you might want to spend your evenings sitting on the balcony listening to the live acoustic duo that performs every evening.
Seminyak Beach is only a short 5-minute walk away, while sunset hotspot La Plancha is just a further 2 minutes down the beach. The bustling shopping area of Seminyak Square and Insta-famous cafes such as Motel Mexicola are simply a 10-minute taxi ride away.
